Pizza Grace

Pizza Grace is a neighborhood restaurant tucked away in downtown on the cobblestones of Morris Ave. The restaurant opened its doors in 2022 and quickly gained recognition, becoming a 2023 James Beard Award semifinalist for "Best New Restaurant." In 2025, Ryan and Geri-Martha O'Hara, the hospitality duo behind Birmingham’s Big Spoon Creamery, purchased the restaurant with the vision of enhancing the experience through cozy interiors, delicious seasonal desserts, and a curated wine program in partnership with Golden Age Wine. Matey was tasked with crafting Pizza Grace's unique positioning and developing its brand identity, along with designing materials such as to-go boxes, matchbooks, and menus.

Pizza and Desserts Made Wholly for Birmingham

Matey positioned Pizza Grace as downtown Birmingham's tucked away neighborhood pizzeria. With a 20-year-old sourdough starter (affectionately named "Frank"), locally sourced ingredients, and thoughtfully crafted desserts, the restaurant creates an experience balancing familiarity with depth and reverence. The team's passion, authenticity, and hospitality ensures guests feel cared for while staff take pride in their craft. Refined yet down-to-earth, Pizza Grace invites locals and visitors alike to gather over appetizers, dinner, or simply dessert and wine—leaving with a sense of both quality and comfort.

The visual identity leans into a heavenly hand-drawn system featuring a script logotype and “Pizza Dove” mark. The organic quality of the branding echoes the crafted nature of the menu and the fresh, carefully sourced ingredients at its heart.
